Vroom, Vroom, It’s Electric!
If you live in East Jefferson County, it’s likely that you’ve seen a Jefferson County Food Bank Association (JCFBA) truck on the road. Our trucks zip across three different counties as we collect, rescue, and purchase food for our food banks. On average, we drive 2,250 miles a month between getting the food, sorting it, and delivering it to our clients at our food banks. Bananas! That’s a lot of miles!
As we continue to work toward a bright future, we decided to make clean energy and cost a priority! Not only will it cut the cost of fuel down significantly (electricity is a fraction of the cost of diesel), but it is also good for the environment. Eighty-eight percent of Jefferson County’s electricity comes from carbon-free, non-emitting sources. Another bright spot, repairs will be covered for the next few years further cutting down the cost of maintaining our fleet.
As we dove into learning about EVs and looking at the cost, we were extremely lucky when a benefactor offered to purchase a brand-new Rivian EV. That’s right, brand new! The donation made it possible for us to also purchase a second EV, this time a 2023 Chevrolet Brightdrop. We are beyond excited to get on the road in our new EVs.
